About Me

Some details about me...

Born in the UK, lived in France, worked around Europe...

Photo John Andrew GarnerBorn in England, I moved to France when I was 12. Following schooling in France and obtaining a Baccalaureate, I studied International Business and majored in International Marketing at Aston Business School, Birmningham in the UK. After creating a company in France I moved to Paris and started working as a consultant and project manager in interactive Ad agencies, working in Paris, London and Hamburg. I love building high-end web sites, photography, designing and enjoy a good meal with a good bottle of red wine.

Trivia & trivial

  • When I was 5, I left school (without the teacher knowing) and walked home, supposedly having decided that being at home was more fun.
  • I created a newspaper at high school and a brochure for a careers day, both led to articles in the local press.
  • I taught badminton to teenagers when I was seventeen (and the following year), at a local summer camp.
  • I taught English to children and adults in France one summer; one adult insisted that I was too young to know English better than him (funnily he was the worst at English) !
  • My photo was used on the back of a bus for a student pass advertising campaign.
  • I started using the Internet in 1992 for email and Gopher in 1993 before the Web existed. I created my first web page in 1994.
  • The first web site I created professionally was for TOIEC (France) in 1996. What was unusual was that I registered toeic.com for TOEIC France before TOEIC in the US even thought of it.
  • The second website I created professionally was with a friend Paul while we were at Aston University end of 1996, the site was for the Aston University Careers Advisory Service as you can see here (awful & unbelievable but true, thanks to the web archive).
  • The archive for UbiKann looks better, sorry, way better (the page needs some time to load).
